VENICE VIRTUAL LIBRARY
The VENICE Virtual Library (VVL) is a public repository of documents in theme of vaccination. Public material is collected, selected and categorized by a team of experts inside the VENICE network.
Many kinds of documents or references to documents are collected, in order to make each country's work accessible to the other states and make vaccine related information, successful experiences, but also mistakes and failure stories, transparent to each other. References of publications, grey documents, national guidelines, quality assessment manuals and whatever available could be of benefit for experts working in this field will be stored, thus saving resources and time.
The Venice Virtual Library intends to be an alive and dynamic space where health professionals can find relevant documents in a fast and simple way. The documents will be progressively added during 2009.
- Why the VENICE Virtual Library?
Vaccines are licensed in the European Union with unique common indications, but varying in vaccination policies, variety in national immunisation programme delivery services and diversity of health services infrastructures characterise European countries. Moreover, health service decentralization is a fast growing fact in many European countries: in many countries, in fact, activities related to public health are autonomously coordinated at sub national level (regional, area, district, sub-state or whatsoever political unit depending on local geographic and administrative organization). This decentralization process increases the need for intensive information exchange on one side, but also the amount of good practices available at local level on the other side.
In accordance with the general aim of the VENICE project, it is quite logic to share knowledge and disseminate information on selected issues on vaccines and vaccinations. Therefore a document repository of key documents in field of vaccination has been created: the VENICE Virtual Library.
- How does the VENICE Virtual Library work?
The VENICE Virtual Library (VVL) is a repository of documents in theme of vaccination. More than a keyword is assigned to each document.
Users can introduce one or more keywords in the tool search and all the selected documents will appear.
VENICE participants can also browse all the library resources by keywords: in the left column they will see a list of keywords. By clicking on a keyword, filtered documents will appear on the right panel.
The number appearing in round brackets represents the number of documents characterized by that keyword.
The VENICE Virtual Library works correctly with all the available HTTP 1.1 standard-compliant browser: Internet Explorer 7 and 8,
Mozilla Firefox, Safari, Opera. With Internet Explorer 6, a problem could show up when directly trying to 'Open' a document:
in this case one has to first 'Save' a local copy of the wanted document, opening it afterwards with an appropriate application
(e.g. Acrobat Reader for pdf documents).
